KENNELS

All dogs are treated as individuals - no two are the same. We feed what you feed and try to keep a similar regime to the one your pet has at home. Dogs love routine, so we try to disrupt this as little as possible.

We are one of the few kennels who "exercise" the dogs 4 times daily in one of our 8 'purpose built' grass paddocks; believing our "late night" exercising is most important, as dogs are cleaner, happier and hence more contented. Pets are kept cool in summer and heating is on 24 hours a day in the winter months. Music is played to calm pets and D.A.P. is used for very nervous animals.

CATTERY

Our newly built cattery is one of the most spacious in the area and all 'catteries' have their own large outdoor runs as well as overhead heaters for cold days and individual 'petnaps' in each bed.

Cats are kept cool in summer and heating is on 24 hours a day in the winter months.

SMALL ANIMALS

We board most small animals: Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Hamsters, Tortoises and some of the more unusual pets. All have hutches and where appropriate, are given access to grass runs each day - weather permitting. Because we can board "most" household pets we feel we can offer a special service to the multi-pet household in that we can take all your pets when you are going to be away. We also offer discounts for multi-pet boarding. With some exotic pets it is advisable to bring their own vivarium’s to minimise stress by keeping them in familiar surroundings.

SPECIAL CARE

If you have a pet that needs special care dietary, temperamentally or otherwise, please feel free to ring or visit to discuss your anxieties, and hopefully we can put your mind at ease. Each pet is an individual with individual foibles - no one knows that better than we do!

Terms and Conditions

Vaccinations:- All pets must be vaccinated with annual boosters; dogs must also have an up to date Kennel Cough vaccination against Bordatella Bronchiseptica; cats must also have an up to date Feline Leukemia Virus vaccination; rabbits must be vaccinated against Viral Hemorrhagic Disease and Myxamatosis. On arrival clients must produce an up to date vaccination card for each pet, without this we cannot accept any pet for boarding.

Any current ongoing problems with a pet's health or temperament must be notified to us at the time of booking. We reserve the right to refuse any pet that we consider to be of an unreliable temperament, or otherwise unsuitable for boarding. The client must warrant that to the best of his/her knowledge their pet is in good health and not suffering from or carrying any infectious or contagious disease and has not been in contact with any disease within the last 30 days from the date boarded.

In the event of a boarding animal becoming ill, we will endeavour to visit your own vet wherever possible, if this is not possible, we will use our vet.

If treatment or surgery is recommended every effort will be made to contact the client or their chosen emergency contact on the telephone numbers given at the time of booking to obtain his or her consent, however if contact cannot be made, the client agrees to accept the decision of the vet and ourselves as to the best course of action to be taken at that time.

The client will be responsible for all vets' fees & medication.

The full boarding fee is payable for each day the animal is boarded with us.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Due to overwhelming demand for our services we can no longer offer / have a half day charge. As from the 1st June 2015 you will be charged fully for the day of delivery and the day of collection. This enables us to have enough time to turnaround each kennel and cattery for the next occupant. Thank you for your understanding.

The right is reserved to charge full boarding fee for the entire period booked if an animal is collected prior to the date arranged or arrives later than the date arranged. A minimum of 10 days’ notice for non-arrivals is required. If this required notice is not fulfilled a full booking fee may still be charged. The right is also reserved to re-home any animal not collected within 14 days of the date arranged for collection if no communication from the owner or guardian is received.

Whilst every possible attention is given to each pet boarded with us, it is done so entirely at the owner's risk. If pets are sharing accommodation, at the owners' request, but we feel in the best interests of the animals that they should be separated then the owner will be liable for the cost of the extra accommodation.

PLEASE NOTE: We are closed for both arrivals and departures on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

Jacky

My husband and I bought Woodlands 15 years ago and have turned it into a very successful boarding complex of which we are both very proud.

Before owning my own Complex, I managed a much larger concern for 10 years. I have trained gundogs in the field for East Riding Gundog Society and have run many pet training classes for various establishments, including Bishop Burton College.

I have owned and showed Rottweiler’s for the last 25 years, having bred many Crufts winners including my own homebred Champion Thirtleby Taboo. I have now retired from breeding and showing, but still have a keen interest in the breed, as I continue to play an active role in the re-homing and rehabilitating of Rottweiler’s in the North of England. I have over the years attended many, many courses including 20 years ago an intensive course doing Dog Behavior with the world-renowned John Rogerson. I have been doing behavior consultations for 20 years and find it so very rewarding. Other courses I have attended include nutrition, first aid, training (all aspects), behavior, animal communication, healing, chelonia management, grooming, trimming, Tellington Touch and many more....

At the moment my own menagerie consists of 6 Rottweiler’s, 1 Whippet, 3 cats, 1 rabbit, 7 guinea pigs, 7 chickens, 7 ducks and 2 tortoises.

Amy

Hi, I’m Amy, I’ve worked at woodlands for over 11years now and is the best job in the world. Getting to work with all the animals we care for everyday and seeing them go home happy is very rewarding. In my spare time i love to relax with my bully billy and enjoy watching Manchester utd

Mandy

Hi, my name is Mandy. I have worked with dogs and small animals for 27 years and love every minute of it. I have two westies, Tia and Willow. We love going on walks in the North Yorkshire moors with my family and sitting in the sun in the garden.

Kira

Hi, my names Kira. I studied animal management level 3 at Bishop Burton College, gaining a triple distinction star. I started working for Woodlands in November and thoroughly love my job. As you can see from my picture, I have two cats Weasley (Ginger) and Dobby (Black with 3 legs). I also have 2 dogs a Jack Russell and Boxer Cross Staffie, 2 chickens called Pickle and Lilly and a horse. I’m passionate about animals and can’t wait to look after yours.

Jenny

Hi, my name is Jenny and I work here at the Woodlands Kennel Complex. I get involved with all aspects of working at the kennels, but I always have time to get to know each and every dog and cat we board treating them as if they were my own. I like to work outdoors a lot, so I am often gardening around the kennel grounds. In my spare time at home I also enjoy gardening but my two dogs (Jack Russell Cross breeds) are far to playfully demanding to let me get any work done.

Answers:

Q.1 What if my dog is in season? A. This is not a problem. Please let us know so that we can allocate your dog a kennel well away from uncastrated males.

Q.2 Do you walk dogs on leads? A. Normally we let them play/exercise in the paddocks off leash, but we can lead walk if your dog needs it.

Q.3 Are dogs allowed in paddocks together to play? A. Yes - generally they are. However, some dogs like to be left alone or do not get along with other dogs. We are VERY careful when we choose which dogs to mix with others and when they will be mixed. If you don't want your dog to mix with others just inform us of this.

Q.4 Do dogs get treats to eat and toys to play with? A. Yes - we give dogs treats while they are exercising/playing in paddocks (which have toys in them). If your dog has any food allergies you can bring in his/her own treats.

Q.5 Do you board any breed of dog? A. YES - ABSOLUTELY any breed.

Q.6 Can my dogs stay in the same kennel? A - Yes. We advise this. If dogs live together, we like them to stay together.

Q.7 Are the catteries big enough for more than one cat? A - We think our catteries are the biggest in the area and every cattery has its own outdoor run.

Q.8 Do you board Queens and Toms that aren't neutered? A - Not generally, but up to the age of about 5 months should be O.K. Older than this is not possible because the Queens call and the Toms have a strong smell, both of which stress other cats in residence.

Q.9 Can you groom my longhaired cat? A - Certainly - We would groom daily if the cat's coat is matt free. If the coat has become unmanageable, we can offer a full grooming service (fee payable of course)

Q.10 Can pets bring their own bedding, toys, food, treats, etc.? A- Yes - of course - even though we have beds and toys some pets like their own beds. If we don't stock your pet's exact food and treats you are welcome to bring your own.

Q.11 How old does my dog/cat have to be to come in and stay with you? A - After all vaccinations have been completed and 2 weeks to a month has elapsed since the final injection.

Q.12 Can my pet see others whilst in the Kennels/Cattery? A - Yes - dogs can see the kennels opposite across a passageway but are not intimidated due to its generous width. And Yes - cats can see their neighbours through the Perspex on the runs and from some catteries across the passageway too.

Q.13 What times do you feed? A - our main feeding times are at 8am and 4pm. However, we do often get pets in that need to be fed differently from this - we can feed any time between 8am and 8pm to suit the animal.

Q.14 What if my pet is on medication? A - If a pet is currently taking medication, we will administer it as prescribed.

Q.15 What if my pet needs a vet while in your care? A - Should a pet become ill during its stay we will take it to YOUR vet (as he has your pet's medical history) at your expense. N.B. If your pet has an ongoing medical problem which requires a vet visit whilst boarding, a nominal charge will be made for the visit.

Q.16 What food do you stock? A - We cannot stock every food, but we stock the most popular tinned food, dry food, frozen tripe and fresh chicken

Q.17 Do I need to bring my own pet food? A - We have Rabbit and Guinea Pig flake and pellet food. We provide fresh greens, carrots etc. Exotics need to to have complete feeds brought with them - ring for details.

Q.18 Do you have UV/heat lamps for my tortoise? A - Yes - we do. Usually tortoises and other exotics like their own familiar surroundings, so if they have a vivarium it is better to bring it with them. If in doubt ring to discuss.

Q.19 Are hutches inside and/or outside? A - Summer months quarters are outside but under a roof and protected from inclement weather. Winter quarters are inside.

Q.20 Will my rabbit, Guinea Pig, tortoise etc. be able to go out on the grass? A - Yes - Weather permitting, we have outside pens where small animals are out on dry days.

Q.21 I have two Guinea Pigs, can they share the same hutch? A - Yes - no problem at all.
